History of USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 16-07 (5NR)

The roots of Flotilla 16-07 go back to December 13, 1958 when Flotilla 87, the “Beaver Dam Creek Flotilla” was chartered under the administration of Mr. Melville Noe, Division 8 Captain. At the end of 1957 Division 16 was created under the direction of Mr. Raymond Swan DCP and it is unclear when Flotilla 87 was changed to 16-07. Our official unit name today is “Manasquan Inlet”, with the Training Room in the new station being the site of our meetings.

In 1962 Flotilla 87 broke ground and began admitting females as members into the previously all-male Auxiliary. Through the years our female members have held elected office, staff officer, and non-staff officer positions.

We offer courses in boating safety and global positioning systems. We also participate in many Water ‘n Kids safety programs in area scouting groups, nursery and elementary schools.
